Have you ever met someone who is just naturally interested in people?
You know, they zone out of a conversation because they’ve become engrossed watching someone? Yeah, well, that was me as a kid. My mum would always point it out!
So it came as no surprise when I chose to study Psychology at University. After completing my PhD, I then trained as a secondary school teacher before embarking on my professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology.
I then started my career within Local Authority before establishing my own company, Flying Colours Educational Psychology Ltd. Even my choice of name at this stage reflected my preferred approach to psychology – to help people to thrive, rather than just ‘fix’ them.
I embarked on a MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology soon after and knew I had found my passion – Positive Education.
I think part of the appeal came from having not fared so well in school myself, both as a learner and as a teacher! My achievements at these times were very much at the expense of my wellbeing and I have anything but fond memories of school.
I often share this with the young people I work with and joke about the fact I still spend my days in schools (although now, in a much better state of wellbeing)!
So I didn’t have the best experience of school myself, but I’ve made it my mission to help others have a better time of it. I’ve been an Educational Psychologist for 18 years now, and I specialise in Positive Education.
In my work I get to help people learn, grow and thrive – and that’s something I’m truly passionate about. Every day, I use positive psychology and positive health principles not just in my work, but with myself and my children and each morning we get out of bed looking forward to the day ahead and thriving and HAPPI Psychology is here to help you and the children you teach to do the same.
